According to an article by the Cleveland Plain-Dealer newspaper, Sweetest Day began in 1921, created as a promotional holiday by Cleveland’s candy manufacturing companies (I swear! It's on Wikipedia). Despite its roots as a promotional holiday, Sweetest Day is a moderately popular holiday throughout the Midwest. Often, Sweetest Day is described as a sort-of ‘reverse Valentine’s Day’ where girls treat boys.

[A kiss for your sweet on Sweetest Day isn't a bad way to show your affection!
However the holiday came about, there are never too many days or ways to show love to the people in your life.
I can think of lots of ways of showing your love – here are just a few:
- Leave love notes in silly places like taped to the milk carton or written to show in the fog on the bathroom mirror
- Send a little e-card to brighten their day at work
- Greet your love at the door and offer to help them with their coat
- Send Sweetest Day flowers, of course!
- Show you’re thinking of them by clipping an article from a magazine or newspaper and passing it along
- Breakfast in bed, yum!
