Today's post is from Marie Ackerman, AIFD, who runs the Teleflora Education Center in Oklahoma City, and served as the on-set floral consultant for the movie “Love Happens,” a romantic drama starring Aaron Eckhart, and Jennifer Aniston as a Seattle-based Teleflora florist.
In conjunction with Universal Pictures and inspired by the movie, Teleflora created a stunning and sweet arrangement of white spray roses called the “Love Happens” bouquet. These gorgeous flowers are perfect for a longtime love or a brand-new crush.
Here, Marie describes her involvement with the film.
I provided training for Jennifer Aniston, who plays Eloise the florist, and Judy Greer, who plays Marty, Eloise’s assistant. Each one received her own personal floral tools (a florist’s Swiss army knife, scissors, clippers, wire cutters) and an apron. Jennifer said she loves flowers and that peonies are her favorite.
The training sessions were fun and fast! It’s kind of hard to teach someone EVERYTHING they should know about looking like a florist. I decided the best way was to let them each create an arrangement.
Actress Judy Greer had floral training sessions to help prepare for the role.
In the movie, Eloise appears to create this design (below) as the camera moves in 360 degrees around her design bench. In reality, she had some expert help to make sure the completed design turned out to be a smashing composition.
The finished bouquet contains some of the most premium flowers you can buy.
The design contained some of the most premium flowers you can have in a flower shop – lilies, hydrangea, viburnum, ornithogalum, purple phalenopsis orchids, gentiana, eucalyptus and ivy. The container was a natural wood stump hollowed out to create a vessel.
The approximate value of the bouquet was $500-$750. It was especially elaborate to show the artistry of designing flowers. The magic of flowers is going from individual items to a beautiful composition.
