A family recipe to share

by Jacqueline

December 23, 2009

On Flower Blog, we're running a Holiday Cookie Recipe Exchange. Today's recipe is for rugelach and it comes from Missy Miller, who works in Corporate Communications. Missy's whole family enjoys these special treats and her mom was nice enough to email the recipe at short notice. Thanks, Mrs. Miller. :)

A little sugar always makes Missy happy.

Rugelach

1/2 lb. unsalted butter
1/2 lb. cream cheese
2 Cups flour
1/2 cup sugar

*Raisin Nut filling
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c sugar
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Cream the butter and cream cheese together. Beat in the flour, a little at a time. Knead, but not a great deal. You are not making a bread dough. Refrigerate for at least one hour. Divide the dough into 2 portions. Roll out the dough and cut into triangles. Sprinkle or spread filling. If you want, before you put in the filling you can spread some jam or Nutella on the dough. Beginning at the wide edge, roll dough. Place on ungreased baking pan and sprinkle each one with a little of the cinn./sugar mixture. Bake at 350 for app. 15 minutes. Makes 2 to 3 dozen.

*You can use other fillings, such as chocolate chips or dried fruit.
